Read more I own and have payed all 3 Intial D Arcade racing games that were ported on console. It is possible to learn how to play this game on a gamepad, but a steering wheel would be highly recommended for. When it comes to the driving mechanics of Special Stage, it is by far the least forgiving of all the three and requires accurate control input that makes game even more difficult play with a gamepad. The steering is D-pad only and no Dualshock, the first game has aged terribly.
